• Description: Every transportation provider will eventually face an accident, vehicle incident, passenger injury, employee injury, medical emergency, or serious customer complaint. The difference between a minor disruption and a major organizational crisis often comes down to preparation. This session brings together the most valuable lessons from this year’s Transportation Alliance Safety Committee discussions and focuses on the tools, policies, training, and resources every transportation organization should have in place before an incident occurs

Mobilizing for Fair Regulation & Competition with Transportation Network Companies (TNCs)

• Description: This session will present the findings of the report prepared by the University Transportation Research Center (U.S. Department of Transportation Region 2) of the City University of New York in collaboration with The Transportation Alliance Foundation, identifying the regulatory gaps and issues that continue to create an uneven playing field and which stand in the way of innovative partnerships between taxicabs and TNCs, as well as how the TNC business model has impacted competition in the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) industry.  The report’s findings will be followed by a panel discussion representing the perspectives of the taxicab and limousine industries, as well as the ride-hailing industry and views of regulators who have been triaging and trying to work around or address these regulatory disparities.

• Description: Winning government and school transportation contracts takes more than submitting a strong proposal. Success requires building trust long before an RFP is released. This session will explore how transportation providers can develop meaningful relationships with decision-makers at the federal, state, local, and school-district levels. Attendees will learn how to: 

  • identify the right contacts,  

  • establish credibility, 

  • participate in the process before a procurement is developed, 

  • sustain interest throughout the procurement cycle, and 

  • position their companies as trusted partners while respecting procurement rules and ethical boundaries.

Building Better Drivers: Creating a Successful Driver Mentor Program

• Description: Strong drivers are developed through more than onboarding and classroom training. A structured mentor program can help new drivers build confidence, strengthen customer service skills, understand company expectations, and become productive members of the team more quickly. Melissa McGehee of zTrip will share practical strategies for creating and managing an effective driver mentor program. Attendees will learn how to identify and prepare strong mentors, establish clear expectations, support new drivers during their first weeks on the job, and use mentoring to improve engagement, performance, and retention.

Tackling the Affordability Crisis through Insurance and Tort Reform for the Passenger Ground Transportation Industries

• Description: This panel discussion will bring together regulators, operators, and insurance professionals to discuss the current insurance crisis and regulatory issues identified in the TTAF report, as well as other reports issued or to be issued by the UTRC in the limousine and bus industries. The panel will address how affordability and grass roots efforts have and could lead to meaningful tort reform for the taxi, limousine and non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) industries, with specific examples from around the U.S. A path forward for collaboration will be identified between various organizations, including TTA, IATR, GBTA and others, and how reforms can be advanced through new methods supplementing lobbying and media relations efforts.

• Description: Transportation operators sit on a wealth of data, but the real challenge is deciding which metrics matter and how to use them to run a better operation. This session focuses on the operational and financial KPIs that should be on every operator’s radar. Roman Genov, Chase Lafferty, and Kelly Milan will walk through the core metrics transportation leaders should be monitoring across areas such as fleet performance, driver productivity, on time performance, service quality, revenue, expenses, and customer satisfaction. The discussion will center on what to look at and why it matters, with a brief, high level look at how business intelligence tools can help you organize and visualize these metrics.

Autonomous Vehicles

Will Autonomous Vehicles Help or Hurt the Taxicab, Limousine and Ride-Hailing Industries?

• Description: There is no shortage of media stories on this topic lately, as AVs are scaling in certain states and cities around the USA. This panel will do a deep dive into how regulators are handling overseeing AV operations – testing and deployment, as well as the perspectives of both the AV industry and the taxi, limo and NEMT industries as part of a debate into the role of AVs (if any) in the near or long-term for TTA’s operator members. Will AV robotaxis cause TTA members to lose business, and is it an existential crisis – or does this movement create a grand opportunity to help the industry pivot, grow, and flourish through fleet management and other partnerships with the ride-hail and AV industry? Will AVs replace ambulatory NEMT services in the near or long-term market? While only time will tell, now is the time to discuss this important topic.
